How to Play The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout
Quick start
Press START at the title screen, advance the story panels with A or B, and begin moving right. Use the D-pad to walk, climb ladders, and press Down over a rabbit hole, pipe, drum, stump, vase, or similar entrance. A jumps and B swings the mallet. In the opening round, test the hammer from a short distance instead of standing inside an enemy, because contact can still cost health. Gather carrots when safe: the WB emblems left behind can become useful steps, and every ten carrots funds a bingo-style bonus attempt. Use the mallet on the raised end of a seesaw for extra height. A large carrot ends the round; against Daffy, avoid him and build a route to it rather than trying to attack him.
Controls
D-pad Left/Right: move Bugs. D-pad Up/Down: climb ladders, trees, and similar structures. Down also enters rabbit holes, pipes, oil drums, tree trunks, vases, and other marked passages. A: jump and start a round; in bonus games, choose a number or swing the mallet as prompted. B: swing Bugs's hammer; it also advances story text and operates bonus actions. START: begin the game and pause/resume play. The US instruction booklet also labels SELECT as a pause button. Only controller 1 is used.
The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout — About this game
The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout is the North American NES release of Kemco's single-player platform game celebrating Bugs Bunny's 50th anniversary. Its package uses this longer US title, while the cartridge title screen says Happy Birthday Bugs and European packaging shortens the name to The Bugs Bunny Blowout. Bugs travels through six themed stages of four rounds each, using a wooden mallet to break obstacles, defeat contraptions, and handle most Looney Tunes rivals waiting near the exits. Carrots are more than score items: collecting them creates temporary WB-logo footholds and pays for end-of-round bonus games that can award extra lives. Hearts repair the three-heart life display, and a giant carrot marks the way onward. Daffy encounters are an exception to ordinary boss fights, requiring evasion and platform use rather than hammer damage.
