Select Training on the title screen to learn both characters, then return to New Game and choose Easy. The first stage, The Doorway to the World of the Dead, is a side-scrolling route in which you defeat monsters and find the exit. Alicia's ranged hat attack and gentle fall make exposed gaps safer; at a meeting point, stand beside Greg and press Up to change character, then use his double jump to reach high platforms. Pick up magic crystals and keep the R-button special for a dense group of enemies rather than a single target.

Move with Left/Right on the Control Pad. Press Up at an entrance to go through it, or press Up beside the waiting partner at a change point to swap characters. A jumps; Greg can press A again in mid-air for a double jump. B uses the character's normal weapon. R performs a special attack when you have collected the required magic crystals. START pauses. In menus, use the Control Pad to choose an item, A to confirm and B to cancel or go back.
