Choose Training from the title menu first to learn the two characters, then return, select New Game, and start on Easy. The opening stage, The Doorway to the World of the Dead, teaches you to move through a side-scrolling route, defeat monsters, and reach the exit. Use Alicia's ranged hat attack and safe slow fall for open gaps; when Greg is waiting at a marked meeting point, stand beside him and press Up to switch, then use his double jump for higher ledges. Collect magic crystals and save the R-button special attack for a crowded passage instead of spending it on a lone enemy.

Use Left/Right on the D-pad to move. Press Up at a doorway to enter it, or press Up beside the waiting partner at a character-change point to switch heroes. A jumps; press A again in the air as Greg for his double jump. B performs the current character's normal weapon attack. R uses a crystal-powered special attack when enough magic crystals have been collected. START pauses. In menus, use the D-pad to highlight an option, A to confirm, and B to cancel or return.
