How to Play SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Pants!
Quick start
Press START at the title screen, begin a new game, and choose Easy or Normal. Easy is the gentler first run; Normal makes each character much less durable. After Gill explains that Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are missing, enter Mermalair World 1-1 and choose SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, or Squidward. Your first goal is to work through the side-scrolling stage and find the two heroes while learning how to jump, attack, and switch characters. Jellyfish and clams are the first enemies. Use L whenever an obstacle suits another character: SpongeBob can float, Patrick can break blocks with a ground pound, Sandy can cross spikes, and Squidward can double-jump. Collect Golden Stars on safe routes; they become currency for extra lives and bonus mini-games at Gill's Trailer.
Controls
Control Pad: move in stages and navigate menus. A: jump or confirm. B: attack or cancel. L: switch among the four playable characters during a stage. R: perform the current character's special action. START: pause and open the pause menu. SELECT: move between menu screens where available. Individual driving, cooking, chase, and rhythm mini-games can change the action; follow their on-screen prompts. In the first Man Ray rhythm battle, the prompts can call for Control Pad directions, L, R, A, or B, so press the displayed input in time rather than using the normal platform controls.
