How to Play Surf's Up

Quick start

Press START, choose Championship, select a surfer and enter the first Shiverpool event. The course scrolls automatically: move up and down to avoid rocks, line up with ramps and rails, and collect stars to build the boost gauge. In the air, combine B with a direction for one of five tricks and chain clean landings. Reach the finish ahead of the three rivals or meet the event's trick-score target to unlock the next challenge.

Controls

Menus use the D-Pad, A to confirm and B to go back. During a race, Up/Down changes your line on the wave; B plus a direction performs an aerial trick, and START pauses. A shoulder button slaps a nearby rival, but the surviving GBA review does not identify whether it is L or R, so use the shoulder prompt shown by the in-game tutorial rather than assuming. Stars and pick-ups fill the boost gauge; ramps, grind rails and waterspouts set up scoring routes.
