Press START at the title screen, choose Pro Tour Career, select a professional or created skater, and enter The Foundry, the only park initially available. A career run lasts two minutes; make the 10,000-point High Score your first target. Hold B to gain speed, release it to ollie, add a direction plus L for a flip or a direction plus R for a grab, then use A beside a rail to grind. Carry the combo into an Up-Down manual, or press R as you land a quarter-pipe trick to revert, rather than banking lots of small scores. The Foundry also has S-K-A-T-E letters, five jammed valves and further goals, so use the opening fly-through to plan a route.

Menus: move the highlight with the D-Pad, choose with A and go back with B; L and R rotate the skater in Create-A-Skater. In a run, Left and Right turn, Down brakes, holding B crouches and builds speed, and releasing B ollies. After an ollie, combine a direction with L for a flip trick, with R for a grab, or with A to grind a rail; direction plus A at a ramp lip performs a lip trick. Up then Down begins a manual, while Down then Up begins a nose manual. R on the ground changes switch stance; R while landing an aerial on a quarter pipe, half pipe or pool performs a revert. Ollie towards a wall and press A to wallride, then B to wallie out; press A behind a moving car to grab on and B to release. START pauses. SELECT has no gameplay action.
