How to Play Pac-Man (JPM bootleg)

Quick start

  1. Follow a route through the first dots while watching the next junction.
  2. Change direction before a ghost closes the passage.
  3. Use an energizer to escape a dangerous grouping or eat vulnerable ghosts.
  4. Return for remaining dots without relying on the energizer after its warning flashes.

Controls

Use the four directions to guide Pac-Man through the maze. Eating dots, fruit and energizers happens on contact. Blue ghosts can be eaten; flashing warns that their vulnerable period is ending. Side tunnels lead to the opposite edge.

Pac-Man (JPM bootleg) — About this game

Pac-Man (JPM bootleg) places a simple objective inside a maze that keeps becoming harder to navigate safely: eat every dot without being caught by the four ghosts. Moving toward food is not always the same as moving toward safety, because a clear corridor can still lead into an approaching pursuer. Large power pellets briefly reverse the relationship, letting you eat vulnerable ghosts for increasing rewards rather than run away. That window is temporary, so chasing a bonus too far can leave you stranded when the ghosts recover. The side tunnel offers another route across the board, while fruit adds optional scoring opportunities near the center. Clearing the remaining corners often becomes the real test of a round. Planning an escape before entering a dead end is more useful than simply following the nearest line of dots.

This Patched set incorporates Don Hodges’s corrections for the level-256 split-screen fault and the upward-facing targeting error affecting Pinky and Inky. The latter changes ghost targeting, so a route learned around the uncorrected behaviour may need adjustment.
