On the title screen, choose NEW GAME and confirm with A; CONTINUE becomes available after the first automatic save. After the opening dialogue, go to the store, pick up one of the Starter Deck packages, and only spend the starting 3,000 Duelist Points after spotting the deck's weaknesses. In town, face a duelist and press R. Start with the anonymous opponents or Téa, and avoid Joey and the dog until the deck is reinforced. The weekend tournament is closed for the first week: earn cards and points first, then register at the Coliseum the following week to progress towards all seven trophies.

Directional cross: movement on the ground, element change, cursor and text scrolling. A: validate, open a menu, send a message; in the field, open a submenu, speak or examine. B: cancel/return; in a duel, open the end of phase menu. R: challenge a character; in a duel, read information from a card or draw during the Draw Phase; in Edit Deck, add a card. L: remove a card in Edit Deck. START: open Options during a duel. On the password screen, L moves back one digit and R moves forward; upon activation requests, R confirms everything and L cancels all confirmations.
