Select NEW GAME on the title screen and press A. Enter a name of up to eight characters with the Control Pad and A; B erases, L/R moves the input cursor, and START jumps to OK for confirmation with A. After Yugi and Joey call at your house, leave for Clock Tower Square. Stand in front of Yugi, Mai, Bonz, Weevil and Mako and press R to speak to each duellist, then return to the centre for the 9:00 tournament opening. The main target is to win six Locator Cards and reach the Battle City finals. Use A on the computer at home to save regularly; the game does not save automatically.

Field/menu: Control Pad moves or selects; hold B plus a direction to run twice as fast. A talks, examines and confirms, B cancels/returns, R challenges the character ahead, and START or SELECT opens the Duelist Menu. Deck/Trunk: Up/Down scrolls; Left/Right transfers the selected card; R skips 50 cards in Trunk or 10 in Deck; L changes the information panel; START opens sorting and SELECT cycles sort order. Duel: Control Pad moves the cursor, A opens commands/confirms, B opens the sub-menu or cancels, L shows ATK/DEF while held, and R displays information about the opponent's hand. A at the home computer opens saving.
