From the title screen choose NEW GAME and press A. Enter a name of up to eight characters: D-pad to choose, A to enter, B to delete, L/R to move the cursor; then press START and A on OK. After visiting Yugi and Joey at home, exit to Clock Tower Square. Stand in front of Yugi, Mai, Bonz, Weevil and Mako and press R to talk to each duelist; return to the center to trigger the 9:00 opening. The first overall objective is to earn six Locator Cards and qualify for the finals. Save manually with A on your home computer - the game does not save automatically.

Map/menu: directional cross to move or choose; hold B plus one direction to run at double speed. A speaks, examines and confirms; B cancel/go back; R challenges the character in front; START or SELECT opens the Duelist menu. Deck/Trunk: Up/Down scrolls, Left/Right transfers the card, R skips 50 cards in the Trunk or 10 in the Deck, L changes the information, START opens the sorting and SELECT changes the order. Duel: cross for cursor, A opens commands/confirm, B opens submenu/cancel, L held shows ATK/DEF, R gives information about opponent's hand. A on your home computer saves.
